WHITEHORSE, YUKON--(Marketwire - Feb. 8, 2010) - The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, today met with key stakeholders and members of the community to discuss the current and future economic and employment situation, with a focus on jobs of the future, skills requirements, and labour market issues.

"While Canada's economic recovery is still fragile, we must now look ahead to future challenges and opportunities to ensure Canada is best positioned to maximize economic growth," said Minister Finley. "Our government's priority in the next session of Parliament will continue to be effective implementation of Canada's Economic Action Plan because many Canadians are still suffering from the impact of the global recession. These consultations will help guide us forward, ensuring the economy grows as quickly as possible once the recovery takes hold."

At today's meeting, stakeholders clearly indicated that in addition to fighting the immediate impact of the global economic recession, the Government of Canada, along with Canadians and employers, needs to look at the future to ensure the prosperity of the country.
